Mini-recap of winter 2018

This has been a very busy season for me personally.  Between working, church-planting, and family life, I don’t know how I found time to travel as much as I did!  However, I feel like I gotta give a mini-recap because there are so many things I randomly updated people on through Instagram stories or Facebook, but never really wrote about.  So, here is a mini-recap of our winter travels and some blog highlights!

In the news

I was quoted in a Reader’s Digest article.  Which may not be a big deal necessarily, but for me, it was pretty cool!

I was interviewed by Jay Artale from Birds of a Feather about my book How to be Your Own Travel Agent.

What impact do you want your books to have on your readers?

I want people to be informed. I want people to feel like they can do things they thought they couldn’t (ie plan a trip!)  Information-sharing is very important to be as a traveler. I rely on it. My writing is my contribution to the information-sharing world of traveling. My hope is that people feel empowered to plan a trip for themselves by themselves. Not go on someone else’s trip, but on their trip. The trip with all the bells and whistles they want. My hope is that people find the information they need through my writing to plan the trips they want to go on.

Winter travels

In November, we traveled to St. Augustine and loved it!  In January, we took a 10-day road trip through California and saw some amazing parks.  I wrote two posts about this experience, because there were some new things for me like renting a camper van.  In February, we were hosted in Ann Arbor for a few nights and added on a night in Ontario to see Bruce Peninsula National Park and the Scandinave Blue Mountain Spa for some amazing hot pools.  We also, of course, stopped by Niagara Falls on the way home because why not?

Here are some of the travel posts I’ve already written about, and I’m still working on a post for what we did in Ontario.  So stay tuned for that one.

6 tips for a great road trip

Where to next?

In April, we have a hosted weekend in West Virginia which I am extremely excited for.  West Virginia is one of my favorite states to travel to from Ohio because it’s a short drive for amazing scenery.  I am looking forward to sharing this with everyone!

In June, we are going to Iceland and Edinburgh.  We got $300 RT tix from Toronto to Iceland, and we thought, we just have to!  It seems like everyone and their mom is traveling to Iceland right now, but hey, we’re caught up in the fever!  I’ve been dying to go back to Edinburgh, so I’m really looking forward to that.  And yes, we have plans to visit many of the places from the Secret Life of Walter Mitty.  We’re nerds.

Sometime in the summer, we want to do a few camping weekends, and there will be another hosted weekend trip flung in there.

We have one big trip in the works right now for December.  It will be to a continent we’ve never been to, and doing something we’ve always talked about but never took the plunge.  Plus, it’s our 10 year anniversary. So stay tuned for that…

A big thank you

There have been more Amazon reviews of my book and I just have to give a big THANK YOU to everyone who has purchased a copy and given me feedback on how it’s been helpful to you.  I read some of the recent Amazon reviews and was just so happy.  I made it a short read on purpose because I wanted people to read it quickly and get the info they needed to plan a trip.  And that is the EXACT feedback I got.  I couldn’t be happier that it is doing exactly what I intended for it to do.  So thank you.  And anyone who hasn’t bought your copy yet, and wants one, click here to get it.

You should probably get a copy… you know…. considering what people are saying about it:

Nina lays out how to travel your way, custom made to fit your own desires, whether traveling alone as a couple or in a group. She also provides pros and cons of various options we have when traveling. I definitely recommend this book, especially if you want to travel but think it’s just a distant dream. Make it a reality with this book!

It’s been 3 years, people!

I just celebrated my 3 year anniversary of blogging, and my stats in the last three months are DOUBLE what they were even in November last year.  I am blown away by the readership increase, and I’m so glad people are finding my posts informative and helpful.  Thank you to all my faithful readers and ones who give me feedback in person or online.  You’re the best!

Last, but not least, don’t forget my motto: Always have a trip planned.
