More than a century old, the historic hotel acquired its name from the Marquis de Lafayette, an American Revolution hero who visited in 1825. Taking pride in the area’s riverboat heritage, various rooms are home to interesting artifacts.
The Lafayette has 77 rooms, each with a unique theme. You can take advantage of dry cleaning and laundry services during your stay, as well as the cardio and strength training equipment in the fitness center.
Before you leave to explore Marietta in the morning, you can grab a hot breakfast at the Gun Room Dining Room, which features steamboat artifacts and a famous collection of long rifles.

This 1-bedroom cabin can accommodate five people because it has queen, full, and single beds and a fold-down couch. The 10-foot ceilings make it feel spacious, and there are three large couches and an air hockey table.
The second cabin here has 2 bedrooms with three beds, a full bathroom, and a half bath. Accommodating up to five people, it’s located at the end of a dead-end street.
Providing even more privacy, there are 1,000 acres of woods behind the cabin. The owners have been in the hospitality business for 25 years, so you can expect a quality stay.
Waterfront Log Cabin in Parkersburg
About 20 minutes southwest of Marietta, this waterfront log cabin has 3 bedrooms with 3 beds to sleep six people. It has a full bath and a half bath, but it’s the water views that draw so many visitors.
The 1.5 acres are located right on the Ohio River and across from historic Blennerhassett Island, giving you direct access to boating, fishing, and jet skiing. Private boat dock space is available, and you can use the available kayaks.
The two-level deck is a fantastic place to relax, and there’s a gas grill if you feel like having a barbecue.

Lane Farm Campground
Previously the Lane Family Farm, the Lane Farm Campground is less than 15 minutes east of Marietta via the National Forest Covered Bridge Scenic Byway.
Situated on the Little Muskingum River are 4 primitive campsites that are available from mid-April to mid-December. Fishing, canoeing, and kayaking are just steps away, and you’re likely to see a lot of wildlife.
Other Campgrounds Near Marietta Ohio
Hune Bridge Campground
In Wingett Run, about 30 minutes east of Marietta, Hune Bridge Campground is accessible via the National Forest Covered Bridge Scenic Byway. It rests on the other side of the historic Hune Covered Bridge on the banks of the Little Muskingum River.
The 4 rustic campsites are available from mid-April to mid-December and have access to 8 miles of hiking trails to covered bridges, fishing spots along the river, and a canoe launch.
Mountwood Park Campground
Across the Ohio River in Waverly, West Virginia, Mountwood Park Campground is about 30 minutes south of Marietta. It’s just one part of Mountwood Park, which features more than 50 miles of biking and hiking trails, wooded picnic areas, and a 50-acre lake.
The campground has 87 campsites for tents, RVs, and trailers; and each of them has a fire ring and picnic table. Clean restroom and shower facilities are available, and you can get camping supplies on-site. For recreation, take advantage of the archery range, disc golf course, boating, and fishing.
